Manea Senior College is a finalist in the Excellence in Teaching (Secondary) category for 2023. The nomination focused on the College approach to skill development and value add experiences that aim to prepare students for life and connect them to their communities.
This included the College Professional Learning model with a focus on programs including:
- Create visual art program;
- Music Appreciation;
- Drama club;
- Environmental Science;
- Crabbing Project;
- REACH Study Skills;
- Wellbeing activities;
- Duke of Edinburgh;
- Emergency Services Cadets
- The Learner Portfolio;
- Food Security;
- Storm Chasers;
- Green Day; and
- Mallokup Rehabilitation and Restoration Program.
A cornerstone of our nomination was the South-West Innovation Academy which through Manea Senior College and the Education Department of WA, is a collaboration with the Dolphin Discovery Centre, 8 South-West Schools (both public And private), Industries and Community Organisations. Believing that it is important for our students to ‘think globally, act locally’, students from participating secondary schools meet with Industry and Community Organisation to examine current local challenges to find sustainable solutions that will benefit our community. Learning to use the Design Thinking Process, understanding the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and collaborating with Industries and Community Organisations, empowers students to recognise the important role that they can play as changemakers within our local and global community.
